helluvawreck suggested I post a blog about making one of these projects so I’m going to give it a try.
I started off wanting to make the fenders and running boards out of cedar. however once i made them both I was trying to fit them to the frame and over sanded them and they ended up in my trash bin. Cedar is soft and takes very little to over do it. in this pic I have the frame, engine and new fenders made out of purpleheart.
here I painstakingly fit the trunk in between the fenders after sanding it all down and rounding off the edges just to realise I have the vehicle sides that must fit between the trunk and the fender. Took trunk out and trimed 3/8” off each side. this time i didnt round it off. engine and trunk are laminated Maple.
laminated some 3.8” strips for the sides so i could keep the grain running in the right direction
Sides cut out, sanded and in place
Now adding a few interior parts while i still can. clutch, brake & gas pedals are blackwood, seat is some chestnut a friend gave me.
put on roof & grill, both purpleheart. the insert on the grill is zebrawood, still not sure if i like how that looks but i’ll give it a few days and see if i like it any better later.
Added door handles (pupleheart), bumpers (chestnut), trim on engine, head & tail lights(pine),
rear tire (oak) and license plates (maple)
Finished this a few hours ago, now just have to wait a week or so for the purple to reappear on the purpleheart and hope it looks like i think its going to.
Hope you all like it, it was a nice 3 day project. Thanks for checking out my first attempt at a blog, hope its ok seeing i have no idea what a blog is…
