Well, I bought my new saw. Set it up, installed my wood slicer blade, and started figuring out how to use this saw and the process I want to use for resawing all of this cedar…funny this does not smell like cedar. So I cut a couple more pieces and it doesn’t exactly look like cedar either. I have never worked with wood that has been a fence for 30 plus years, does cedar change much over time?
So I took a couple of samples to some friends. The consensus is that it is not cedar; but no one is sure what it is. Well maybe Leon knows…Yep (Thanks Leon!) it is most likely Hemlock. Wow! Untreated hemlock as a rail fence for 30 plus years and still enough left to maybe reuse…
OK, now what shall I build?
