Tonight I spent some time working on the raised panel lid for the box I have been working on. All the work was done with a block rabbate plane. I started out cutting a wide rabbate on the ends of the panel about 1/8 inch deep and then the sides. This was followed by cutting a slope that hit my scribe line on the outside of the pannel and the bottom of the existing rabbate at the same time. Again I started with the cross grain cuts and then finished with the with grain sides. I tried scrapping the cross grain work with a card scrapper but finally had to break down and use sandpaper to get the finish the way I wanted it.
Next I finished trimming the panel to fit the opening in the box.
Now for some hinges and a finish on the outside and it will be done!
