Box came out of the forest of clamps….needed a little clean up…will do a full clean up later…
Bevels Front of the desk where the lid will land on..
Planed to match the side’s bevels….The “Top” also needs a bevel to allow the lid to close..
About like this…Millers Falls No.11 to plane..
Clamped to the tool well, and in the leg vise….check with the bevel gauge..
Backside of the “Top” needed jointed…to better match up to the back of the desk…
Before the Top was glued in place. Let this mess sit a day…
Next day…
Clamps removed, dovetailed corners cleaned up…where the top meets the back..
Glue joint here was planed flat….decided to try the lid’s bevel..
First, one edge needed worked on…scrap to prevent any blow-outs…( still got one..grrrr) Then..
On over, to plane a bevel…long plane to start, #3 to fine tune..
Should have stopped right here….rather than push/rush ahead with..
Was not a good day…wound up with bent hinges, stripped pilot holes….and a lid that was upside down….don’t ask me how….let it sit a while….
Later…removed the bad hinges ( trash can) set the screws aside…..dug out another package of hinges…this time, I surfaced mounted them…
They also are covering the very showy hinge mortises….hinges are a stand-in..as I need to buy a pair of fancier surface mounted ones, next pay day….
There was also an issue with a corner of the lid….where a piece had split off….#3 to level the entire front edge of the lid..
And wound up just doing a round-over…
And called it a night….last night..
Stay tuned….next episode will include a PIP!
