Hmmm, could have sworn I wrote this up….try again ( now that the box has already been posted as a Project)
Out of the clamps…
S L O W L Y….1/2 taken off…nothing flew apart…good sign…sanders and a plane to clean up the glue joints..
Finally to around to the top of the box..
Time to saw the lid free of the box…remember that “fat finger”?
Trying to split it in two..half for the box, half for the lid…carry this all the way around…
And..so I can see the line a bit better, trace the gauge line with a pencil…Then stand the box up on an end…dovetail saw to start at a corner, repeat for the other corner, until the end is sawn through…repeat for the other end..
Set the dovetail saw over into the tool well…grab the old No. 4 Backsaw…and, with the box laying down, connect 2 corners..until the saw feels like it drops inside…time to flip the box over….but, first, I needed a shim…
Why I kept the other saw handy…then clamp it and the box into the vise…and then..
No. 4, again….you will feel when it is done….as the saw will “drop” a bit..
Take the 2 parts, and level things up a bit..
Hand plane works best….
getting there…once that gap goes away…clamp the box up in the vise, back side up…and get some hardware and tools…
Mark for the pilot holes, drill the pilot holes, and install the hinges..
Then rotate the box…and install the latch..
Then stand the box up on an end…
Add a handle to each end…roughly centered, using the MK-II, MOD 4 Eyeballs…then a coat of Witch’s Brew Stain
Inside and out…
Let that dry a day, come back with a coat of 1 pound cut Amber Shellac…let that sit a day,, rubbed down with some 0000 steel wool…wiped down, and brush on a coat of “Warm” clear gloss poly….allow to dry a day..buff out with more of the steel wool…wiped down…and call it done….I did not add any varnish to the insides, I used the shellac, instead…
Thanks for following along…just a little box…
