A Project for August #1: Start up

Have a stash of resaws left over..

And..

And decided to “Book Match” all 4 pairs…

and..

Sometimes, the bench vise acts just like a pair of cauls, and a third hand…

Cauls as needed….

Not too sure about how that knot is going to work out..let these sit a day, or two…

First 2 sides out of the clamps….panels are roughly 8” wide….

And the rest of the 4 panels…then trim them for square..

Ok..this was after the 2 longer panels were trim to match each other, and the same for the 2 shorter panels…which wound up looking a bit too square-ish…..ripped all 4 down to the same 5” width…( I saved the cut-offs) then the planes could go to work….trying to get the glue lines to go away….

Yes, there IS a glue line….follow the grain lines to almost find it….the other goal, was to get these panels flat..

And that will do it, for a start up…plan is for a Frame & Panel box/chest….intend to have a live edged lid…

Since I still have 2 planks upstairs…I can use the one with this edge….a 1×6 x 65-1/2” Spalted Maple plank.

Stay tuned..need to mill that plank down into “Parts”..
