Barbie Dollhouse #2: Foundation construction

Now that the design stage is complete I went out and purchased the first sheet of plywood and began construction. The first stage is the foundation.

The foundation is built to a height of 2-1/2”. Well, almost as we all know, 1/2” plywood is not really 1/2”.

As this house will total out at just under 5’ tall, the foundation will have to support some weight so I criss-crossed some support throughout the center.

Here are some of the latest pics…

Having a jig for the circ saw came in handy for this. Just set the square for the desired dim plus the saw kirf, move the jig over, and slice off the next piece, 9 in all.

Next was the floor of the first story and assembly of the perimeter strips.

The remaining strips needed cut to allow them to be criss-crossed in the middle of the foundation. The pieces were ganged together and notched out on the table saw.

Sometimes the simple things work the best. I needed to weight these down while the glue set up.

After the center strips were installed, and the front step was installed, the foundation was complete.

The next entry will be the construction and erection of the first story walls.
