Plans for the Fall Charity Build are now underway. The project I selected is a small rocking horse from a WOOD Magazine plan. WOOD has been kind enough to offer the plan for free for a limited period of time. After the build, they go back into their store. I chose this project because it is fairly simple to build and lends itself well to charitable donation.
So here’s how this is going to work. For each person that builds a rocking horse (and sends me a picture), I’ll be donating $1 to Livestrong via Woodworkers Fighting Cancer. And we already have several sponsors on board who are matching my donation including: Festool, The William Ng School, Bell Forest Products, MicroJig, Lie-Nielsen, and Highland Woodworking. Companies and individuals looking to sponsor the event, please contact me. And if you’d like to make a personal donation to help us meet our goal, you can do so on our Team Donation Page.
Originally I was hoping to do all of the build presentations live, but with Nicole being “very pregnant” and my parents out of town, I would be running the show by myself. While it might be fun to watch me trip over cords and curse at myself, I think the whole thing will go much smoother if I simply film the build as a regular TWW series. I plan on breaking it up into 2-3 parts and releasing them each week starting Sept. 26th. That will give builders all week and the following weekend to catch up to where I am in the video in true “build-along” style. And perhaps we’ll have a live Q&A at some point to cover any questions you might have about the project.
So if you are interested in building along, be sure to sign up for the Charity Newsletter. This way you won’t miss any future announcements. WOOD isn’t quite ready to distribute the plan so I’ll be updating you on that in the near future. And just so you know, this particular newsletter will ONLY be used for communications about charity events at TheWoodWhisperer.com. I hope you decide to build along!
